What to bring to the hospital
Dear Patients,
Here is a list of necessary documents, test results and personal items to help you prepare for your stay at St. Sophia's Hospital.
Admittance for Childbirth
Required documents
- Identification card (or passport or residency permit)
- Pregnancy Medical Record
- Insurance numbers/cards
- The NIP number of your employer or , if self-employed, your own NIP number
Required test results
- blood types: ABO, Rh status and antibody screening (original)
- blood and urine test results
- hepatitis B screening in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy or proof of hepatitis B vaccination
- gonnorhea, chlamydia and syphilis test results from the 3rd trimester
- Streptoccocus group B (specimen from vaginal and rectal areas) in or after the 35th week of pregnancy
- Results from ultrasound scans taken throughout the entire pregnancy
- All other important test results and/or consultations with cardiologists, optometrists, orthopedist etc.
A physician's referral is not necessary.
Three weeks before your baby is due to arrive, start to pack the following items:
For yourself
- comfortable nightgown convenient for breastfeeding (3- including one for delivery )
- bathrobe, socks, slippers/flip-flops
- breastfeeding bra
- two packs of disposable diapers ie. Bella
- favorite soap, shampoo and liquid soap for intimate hygiene
- two towels
- paper towels
- non-carbonated mineral water
- cell phone
- any medication that you are taking in the original packaging
- sanitary napkins
- things that you can't imagine not having with you during your stay
For your baby
- three thin body suits or tees
- three warm tees
- three sleepers
- 10 cloth diapers and a pack of newborn disposable diapers
- two cotton hats without strings
- two pairs of socks
- blanket or sleeping sack
- towel
- small pillow – helpful at nursing time
- gloves
- wetnaps
- baby cream
All clothing, even newly purchased, should be laundered before use.
For dad/support person
- a comfortable change of clothes
- slippers or flip-flops
- something to eat
- camera / video camera
Further advice
- for peace of mind, leave valuable jewelry at home
- remove nail polish from fingers and toes ( the color of your nails provides us with information about your health )
- cut nails relatively short – it will make care for your newborn easier
Admittance for Surgical Procedures
Required documentation
- Identification card (or passport or residency permit)
- Insurance numbers/cards
- The NIP number of your employer or , if self-employed, your own NIP number
It is essential that you remain on an empty stomach – no food or drink – the day of the planned surgery. If you need to take medication please do so without drinking.
Required test results
- blood types: ABO, Rh status and antibody screening (original)
- blood test results
- ECG
- pap smear results
- Hepatitis B test result ( within the last 3 months) or proof of hepatitis B vaccination
Personal items
- nightgown
- bathrobe
- slippers
- flip-flops for the shower
- soap, shampoo etc.
- towels
- sanitary napkins
- any medication that you are taking in the original packaging
- things that you can't imagine not having with you during your stay
Further advice-
- for peace of mind, leave valuable jewelry at home
- remove nail polish from fingers and toes ( the color of your nails provides us with information abou your health )
- cut nails relatively short – it will make care for your newborn easier
- refrain from shaving the pubic area for a period of 7 days before surgery to avoid infections
Admittance for Operation
It is important to do everything possible to avoid complications from surgery, therefore we ask our patients to start preparing at home a few days in advance.
- For 2-3 days before the operation eat light meals, meaning, meals that consist of protein except for cheese (cottageand farmer's cheese are allowed); poultry ; vegetables other than beans, peas, cabbage, cauliflower, onions, garlic; cooked with little fat. Please remember to drink 2-3 liters of water daily.
- Any medication taken regularly in the original packaging.
- Bring 3 liters of non-carbonated mineral water
- It is essential that you remain on an empty stomach – no food or drink – the day of the planned surgery. Please arrive at the Admittance Office at 10:00 a.m.

- All other important test results and/or consultations with cardiologists, optometrists, orthopedist etc.

Admittance for Urodynamic Testing
Required documents

- Insurance numbers/cards

Personal items
- small towel
- soap
- 1.5 litersof beverages
- comfortable clothes (loose cotton pants and shirt)
- 2 large sanitary napkins
- any medication that you are taking in the original packaging
Admittance for Ultrasound scanning of the stomach and/or kidneys
Required documentation
- Identification card (or passport or residency permit)
- Insurance numbers/cards
- The NIP number of your employer or , if self-employed, your own NIP number
Preparation
Six hours before the scan:
- take Espumisan, Esputicon, or Gastrosil according to instructions (very overweight people should take it the night before)
- no smoking
- no eating
- no carbonated beverages
- empty your bowels
